Your Complete Smile Aftercare Guide
Everything you need to know after your treatment, whether you received Composite Bonding or EMAX Veneers. Choose your treatment below and follow the guidance specific to your smile.
Composite Bonding Aftercare
Protect the shape, polish and appearance of your new smile. Composite resin benefits from careful cleaning, sensible habits and regular maintenance.
Your First Hours
Composite bonding normally requires little or no recovery time, but it may take a short time to get used to the new shape and bite.
If Anaesthetic Was Used
Wait until normal sensation returns before chewing normally, and take care with hot food or drinks while your lips, cheeks or tongue are still numb.
Your Smile May Feel Different
Your lips and tongue may initially notice the new contours. This usually becomes familiar quickly, but your bite should still feel comfortable.
Protect Composite From Chipping
Normal eating is fine. Avoid placing unnecessary concentrated force on the bonded front teeth.
Cleaning & Maintenance
Brush Twice Daily
Use a soft-bristled toothbrush with fluoride toothpaste.
Clean Between Teeth Daily
Floss or use another interdental method recommended by your dentist.
Watch the Gumline
Plaque can still accumulate where composite meets the natural tooth.
Avoid Aggressive Toothpaste
Very abrasive products, including many charcoal toothpastes, can affect the smooth composite surface over time.
Coffee, Tea, Red Wine & Staining
Composite can gradually pick up external staining, so sensible maintenance matters.
Common Contributors
- Coffee
- Tea
- Red wine
- Strongly pigmented food and drinks
- Tobacco
Reduce Staining
- Brush well daily
- Rinse with water after coloured drinks when practical
- Avoid sipping staining drinks all day
- Avoid smoking where possible
- Attend professional maintenance
Professional finishing and polishing can sometimes improve superficial staining and restore surface gloss.
Acidic & Fizzy Drinks
Consume acidic beverages in moderation. After an acidic drink, rinsing with water is preferable to aggressively brushing immediately afterwards.
Whitening
Natural enamel and composite do not respond to whitening identically. Speak to a dentist before whitening your teeth.
Clenching & Grinding
If a night guard has been recommended, wear it as instructed. Report repeated chipping, morning jaw tension or new edge wear.
Regular Maintenance
Continue routine dental examinations and hygiene appointments after returning home.
When Should I Contact Us?
Send clear photos and explain which area is affected, when you noticed it, whether there was any trauma or biting incident, and whether you have pain or sensitivity.
Composite FAQ
Can I eat normally after composite bonding?
Yes. Once any anaesthetic has worn off, you can return to normal eating. Avoid unnecessary force on the bonded front teeth.
Can I drink coffee?
Yes, although composite can gradually pick up external staining. Good oral hygiene and professional maintenance can help.
Can I floss?
Yes. Daily cleaning between teeth remains important.
Can composite be polished again?
Professional polishing can improve the surface and some superficial staining.
EMAX Veneers Aftercare
Protect your porcelain smile for the years ahead. EMAX is highly stain-resistant, but your teeth, gums, bite and restoration margins still require excellent care.
Your First Hours
Once the final veneers have been fitted, your dentist will check their fit and bite before you leave.
If Anaesthetic Was Used
Avoid chewing normally or consuming very hot food or drinks until normal sensation has returned.
Getting Used to the New Shape
Your lips, tongue and bite may need a little time to become accustomed to the new contours.
Sensitivity
Temporary sensitivity can sometimes occur after restorative treatment, but it should generally improve rather than worsen.
Daily Cleaning
Brush Twice Daily
Use fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush.
Clean Between Teeth Daily
Floss or use another interdental method recommended by your dentist.
Clean Gently Around the Gumline
Good plaque control helps maintain healthy gum tissue around your veneers.
Use Gentle Dental Products
Use non-abrasive fluoride toothpaste and avoid aggressive charcoal or polishing toothpastes unless recommended.
Food, Drink & Everyday Habits
EMAX veneers are designed for normal daily use, but they should not be treated as indestructible.
Staining
EMAX is highly stain-resistant compared with composite, but natural teeth and margins still require excellent oral hygiene.
Whitening
Porcelain does not whiten like natural enamel. Speak to your dentist before whitening treatment.
Clenching, Grinding & Night Guards
If your dentist recommends a night guard, wear it as instructed. Do not assume a generic guard is suitable for a restored bite.
Regular Dental Checks
Continue regular examinations and hygiene appointments with a qualified dentist.
